Welcome to "Fox & Rat" Virtual Series (FRVS), the very first and longest running virtual series for "The X-Files". FRVS began back on Sunday, 5 September 1999 as a silly comedy starring Fox Mulder and Alex Krycek with the first story posted to an eGroups mailing list! The series follows the friendly and rivalrous adventures of Fox Mulder, Alex Krycek, and all their Super Buddies. Whether by ground, by sea, or air there's always much fun and games to be had. Though all bright and happy, there's still the dark side lingering when the Cigarette-Smoking Man and his - not so almighty - goons try to disrupt the flow of love and friendship between Mulder and his Super Buddies, with their alien government conspiracies."Fox & Rat" Virtual Series' win in the 2005 Virtual Series Awards for Best Drama and Best Comedy solidified its place in virtual series fandom history as the only virtual series to win in two very different categories. "Fox & Rat" Virtual Series is not a procedural comedy or drama. The series does focus on their jobs at the FBI, but also dives heavily into their personal lives. Some episodes are flat-out slapstick comedy and others are heart wrenching, angstful, character driven dramas. At times even action likes to explode on the screen. We've got a little bit of everything for everyone. If you've never seen an episode of "The X-Files" you will not be lost while reading "Fox & Rat" Virtual Series. We do not rely on the original mythology and character development created by the writers of the show which our series is based. If you're a first time reader to "Fox & Rat, welcome! We hope you enjoy the story and the ride! And if you are a long-time fan, you must have had a very specific Google search to find us again! Welcome home, Super Buddy!

"Fox & Rat" Virtual Series

"You only spoof the thing you love, there's no fun in ribbing a bad movie. It's too easy. You have to have a target you respect, one that's big enough to stand up to parody."
- Mel Brooks

About

History

Sunday, 5 September 1999 - the very first episode of "Fox & Rat" Virtual Series (FRVS) is posted online to the Diana Fowley Haters Brigade (DFHB) eGroups mailing list. The episode was called "Lucky Charms vs. Cheerios," and it sparked so much positive feedback and encouragement to keep on writing stories about Fox Mulder and Alex Krycek being rivalrous friends that more and more stories were written, and the very first "The X-Files" virtual series was born.At first the stories of FRVS were on a site called "Fox and Alex Build A Wesbite", which was a site set up as if Mulder and Krycek ran the site themselves. The episodes were in a section called "The Adventures of Fox and Alex". After the first season of stories, we decided that we wanted to do more seasons so FAABAW and "The Adventures of Fox and Alex" transformed into "Fox & Rat" as you know it today. When we began writing our stories we had no idea how long the series would run. We had no idea how to write (sorry about that! <--- re: the first four seasons of FRVS). We were still teenagers and had no idea what we were starting. We had no idea how to plot an arc. We only knew that we wanted to see the characters of "The X-Files" in silly situations.Eventually "The X-Files" got rid of Mulder, and brought on a brand new character, John Doggett. We used this as an opportunity to add more characters to FRVS. With the addition of new characters on "The X-Files" TV series characters such as Knowle Rohrer, Brad Follmer, Monica Reyes, Shannon McMahon and Robert Comer became key characters in the episodes of "Fox & Rat".Unlike "The X-Files" TV series (nine seasons) and movies (two), "Fox & Rat" (ten seasons and two movies) took a head-first leap into developing, following-through with, and finishing the alien mytharc.FRVS began as FAABAW and has grown to become one of the better known "The X-Files" virtual series on the world wide web. FRVS never catered to majority preferences and views of the X-Files online fandom (despite constant pestering by unloyal FRVS reader wannabes). FRVS earned its loyal readers through the telling of silly stories, dramatic events, and because the writers wrote what they wanted to write, not what fans wanted them to write. And this is the quick and short version of how "Fox & Rat" Virtual Series came to be.

Inspirations

FRVS was inspired by "The X-Files" season 4 episodes "Tunguska" and "Terma". We enjoyed watching Mulder and Krycek working together so much that we felt this incessant need to write short stories about their rivalry and eventual friendship.Comedy. On "The X-Files" the characters are typically very serious and without many character quirks. We thought with FRVS that we'd spice them up a little and give them personality and a sense of humor. The films of Mel Brooks. We grew up on Mel Brooks (thanks, dad!) and... well we'll just let the following quote speak for us:"You only spoof the thing you love, there's no fun in ribbing a bad movie. It's too easy. You have to have a target you respect, one that's big enough to stand up to parody." - Mel Brooks

Frequently Asked Questions

Why in the world did you come back?
We're not necessarily "coming back", this is more of an archive of the series. That doesn't mean we might not write more, we just wanted it back online for ourselves and our readers (if they're still out there).

Frequently Asked Questions

Why in the world did you come back?
We're not necessarily "coming back", this is more of an archive of the series. That doesn't mean we might not write more, we just wanted it back online for ourselves and our readers (if they're still out there).
Ok, but why a website? Like, seriously? What are you? In the 20th century? Yes. We're old. We weren't old when we originally wrote this. I mean this shit was written first in 1999! You probably weren't born! Come on homey, we're totally hip and rad, dude! But seriously, because we can add so many more bonus features and extras right here on a website. What is a virtual series? I don't think I understand what this site is all about. A virtual series is a written series posted online. In this case, FRVS is a series including characters from "The X-Files".Will there be more stories? Every now and then we will write a "Fox & Alex and..." story, you can find a link to those on the "Fox & Alex and..." page. We are juggling around ideas for prequel stories and galaxy far, far away stories, but nothing definite has been planned nor will any such stories be promised. When does FRVS take place according to "The X-Files"? FRVS does not take off or spin off from anywhere in "The X-Files" series. This is a series that spoofs "The X-Files", has it's own character backgrounds, series mythology and supporting original characters. Though we do reference events that have happened on "The X-Files", we do not replace a season or episodes from the series. We're a lot more original than that. What are the main pairings of FRVS? I want to make sure this is something I will enjoy. If you're worried about this, and this is truly a question on your mind. THIS IS NOT (!!!) A SERIES FOR YOU. We'll be honest... if you're going to determine your enjoyment of fanfic based solely on reading a certain relationship pairing or your personal favorite relationship pairing, FRVS is not for you. Here's a trick: hold CTRL and W at the same time. Thanks!!!We developed FRVS as a series anyone could read and enjoy regardless of favorite XF relationship pairings. FRVS is NOT "The X-Files" and the characters and relationships are not the characters or relationships that you saw on the XF series. Having said that we will say that FRVS does NOT cater to XF 'shippers of Mulder/Scully or Doggett/Reyes, any other relationship pairing is game. MSR and DRR will be mocked, if you don't like that try this again: CTRL + WWhy don't you write more conventional pairings like Mulder/Scully and Doggett/Reyes? You would get more people to read if you wrote what the fans want. To answer your question please hold down (at the same time) CTRL + W, thank you.I want to help you write future episodes, movies or your prequel season. How do I get involved? Do you accept stories from other writers? FRVS has finished its run. Any future episodes/movies/seasons will be written by the creators, Dana Doggett and Little Albatross. If you have FRVS fanfic, feel free to send it to us and we'll see if we can find a place on our website for it.Is FRVS Mulder/Krycek slash? No and a little bit of yes. Mulder and Krycek are straight men in the series, but we like to toy with the idea that sometimes they have those slashy moments of oddness. If you don't like reading slash, you will still like FRVS. If you only love to read slash, you will still like FRVS. Bromance+ is the most appropriate word to describe the relationship/friendship between Mulder and Krycek in FRVS.Why did you write most of your episodes in script format? When you run a series with 203 episodes, two movies, and pretty much two writers (the occasional guest writer helped us out a handful of times) it is faster and easier to get episodes out on time when written in script format. AKA the short answer to that is... we're lazy. Why are Mulder and Krycek's names sometimes spelled "Moulder" and "Krychek"? That's Nate for you. He was picking on Little Albatross and her love of "The X-Files" and Krycek. She used to get really upset by this, but got over it... eventually.
Deal with it. If that bothers you, we suggest: CTRL + W
I want to run a virtual series? Can you help me and be my mentor?
No, we offered up advice to people in the past who wanted to start their own X-Files virtual series, and we were not listened to (said series by the other person/s failed, not even a full season). If you want to write your own virtual series we wish you the best of luck, but you need more than just luck to make a virtual series successful.
What are/were you guys on when you wrote some of these stories? Fresh air and caffeine in the form of Mt. Dew (not a sponsor of FRVS).Why does season 4 suck? Season 4 is well-known among FRVS writers (and some fans) for being the worst season of the series. There are a few reasons for this... 1) most of the season was written post-9/11 and because the season dealt with death and the Afterlife, it was all very depressing. 2) We were very disgruntled with "The X-Files" (circa season 7 and 8) and wanted to see all the main characters die (except for the one character that we felt brought life back to the actual XF series, Doggett). 3) We were struggling to find our rhythm and our overall arcing storyline for FRVS and were dealing with our first real bout of writers block. So yes, we killed off the initial main characters of FRVS. We know this was not the best idea, and we try to forget the season ever happened.I've read the first three seasons, and I'm a little concerned. This is weird, does it ever get serious? Yes. Eventually we calmed down and our writing style grew up. We also took on more serious issues and controversial topics. We even dealt directly with the threat of alien colonization and post-colonization.I don't believe your NC-17 rating warning on some stories. I'm going to read it anyway, is that all right with you? Yes. But you've been warned and if your parents find out and you are under age, or if you are offended by the content, we are not responsible for anything. You've been warned.Have you ever written any Mulder/Scully relationship fanfic (how about Doggett/Reyes relationship)? I would love to read my favorite pairing by you guys. Thanks! If you are interested in reading our MSR and DRR fanfic, please follow this link. Please remember that MSR and DRR are not our favorite things about "The X-Files" so we cannot be held accountable for your reaction to the "stories" at this link. Enjoy! Why are you two so mean !?! ;)
Because, we enjoy a little wicked humor from time to time. If that bothers you... well, at this point you know the drill... CTRL + W
Why do you keep making me close out of my browser?!! I hate you!
First of all, no one is making you do anything. And don't hate cuz haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate. Baby, I'm just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake. I shake if off, I shake it off (whoo-hoo-hoo). =P

About These Stories

"Fox & Alex and The Short Stories are stories that are not contained within the Original FRVS Series or "The X-Files" series. These are simply silly stories that we came up with after FRVS ended. You'll notice that some stories say "pre-season fill-in-the-blank"—this tells you where in the timeline of FRVS the story is taking place (or doesn't take place! LOL). If we are to mock an episode from "The X-Files" television series it would be noted with a spoiler alert for the series. We hope you enjoy these late-to-the-party "Fox & Rat" stand-alone episodes.

About These Stories

What if Fox and Alex ended up in the "Star Wars" universe? Would they ruin the universe they have come to know and love? Would they learn the ways of the Force? Would Darth Vader be forced to join Super Buddies? Or would Alex become obsessed with the Mandalorian himself, Din Djarin? There's a galaxy load of possibilities...

6x08 "Ice, Ice Baby"

by Cerasi J.

I got the idea for "Ice, Ice Baby" in mid-July of 2003 after an icy incident of my own. It was incredibly hot outside, so my brother and I decided to head over to the local ice rink to cool off. My feet, however, do not belong in skates of any kind... rollerblades, ice skates... whatever. My feet just don't work with them. So after slipping and sliding and sprawling on my butt a few hundred times I decided it was time to hang up the blades and call it a day. I sat in the bleachers with wet blue jeans while my brother and his friends took their hockey sticks pretty much played out the whole episode of "Ice, Ice Baby".Inspiration struck and I wound up with one of the longest stories I've ever written. As I watched my brother and his amigos play around I took out my notebook and started scribbling ideas. One of the first ideas I got was watching the goalie, Keith, as he tackled my brother, grabbed the back of his jersey and shoved him in the net. I, of course, thought this was outrageously funny and quickly wrote down what had happened while tears of laughter were running down my face. When I got home I sat down at my computer and started to bang out the idea and before long I realized the story was turning out to be a FRVS episode more than it was a fanfic. I e-mailed Little Albatross and Dana Doggett with the idea and they seemed to like it very much, they gave me the go-ahead and I was part of the Fox and Rat writing team!In the story, Krycek decides he no longer wants to be Russian, he wants to be Swedish instead, because he overhears Dana and Monica giggling over pictures of my favorite hockey player, Peter Forsberg, (who is, obviously, from Sweden). He uses his Endless Credit Card to buy hockey gear and Swedish language tapes, because, for some stupid reason, I decided that Krycek would speak a lot of Swedish in this episode. That part took a lot of research. Since I don't speak Swedish or have any relatives who are Swedes, I was totally clueless. The only thing I could claim to know about Sweden is that they make damned good pancakes over there. The parts of the episode where Alex speaks Swedish took me the longest to write, because I had to traslate each word from a Swedish to English dictionary I found at the library. Talk about tedious! >=D At the very end of the story my brain just shut down and I was totally out of ideas, (it must have been all that traslating I did!) so I went to the first source of my inspiration for help: my little bro. My brother actually wrote the last two pages of the episode which I went back and touched up later, and I found that his sudden ideas were much funnier than my own. (i.e. John Doggett calling Skinner "Que-Ball" and Mulder calling David Aebischer "Mr. Goalie Man").And there you have it! It's amazing how one hot afternoon could turn into one of the best stories I've written. I hope you've enjoyed it as much as I have! =)

Back Stories

6x17 "Such A Ruckus"

by Little Albatross

As a writer, I like to bring my personal experiences into my stories. With "Such A Ruckus" there was no doubt in my mind that I had to tell the story of what happened to me over winter break 2003.All I knew when writing "Such A Ruckus" was that I had to get Monica whacked in the head with a frying pan by Marita. That was all I had to go on, and I had no idea how to do it until the Highway Incident of Winter 2003 happened.Dana Doggett and I were driving to the airport so we could catch our flight down to Texas to see our parents over the holiday. It wasn't snowing out, which is unusual that late in December, even for Kansas. The roads were a bit slick and I was driving very carefully so I wouldn't have an accident.I think I cursed myself because the even that happens to Mulder and Krycek at the very beginning of the episode happened to Dana Doggett and I. However there are slight differences. Dana Doggett was on the phone with my mom asking her something. I didn't know where our exit was until Dana Doggett informed me at the last minute. Thinking I could make it and not hit anything, I go for the exit.I guess you could say I didn't miss the exit, I was right on top of it.I totalled my car and Dana Doggett and I ended up flying across the highway, much like Mulder and Krycek did in the episode. And when we finally came to a stop and a semi-truck flew by us, Dana Doggett says to my mom on the phone: "Well, we're in the median."And that's where "Such A Ruckus" came from.

Back Stories

8x06 "Close To You"

by Little Albatross

The story for "Close To You" has been in my mind since 1998. So may think I've taken "Nightmare on Elm Street" and worked the story into "Fox & Rat", but this is not true. I never saw "Nightmare on Elm Street" until a couple years ago, can you believe it?In 1998 I had this dream, the images of it are still vague in my mind, but I was stabbed in the back by a knife. When I woke up, I felt the pain in my back for a week. Now, whether this was because of the dream or something I did in my sleep, I don't know. But the idea of dreams affecting what physically happens in life intrigued me.The original story was titled "Träume Süss", which is German for 'sweet dreams'... probably horribly translated too. It was about a young girl who was murdered in her sleep and there were no outside physical evidence. Everything was internal. The story never took off because I didn't feel I had the right agents working the case. Back then it was just Mulder and Scully. And yes, this story was not ever going to be part of "Fox & Rat" Virtual Series, instead it was supposed to be an independent X-Files fan fiction story. Then came Agent Monica Reyes. She was the perfect agent to fit the story about dreams and mental connections to people. It took a few years, and I never considered it until I sat down with the idea and realized that this was the perfect casefile for her. It not only affected her because of her Gift, but it was also a perfect reason for her to leave the FBI, which was a goal in our eighth season. So "Träume Süss" became "Close To You". Why that title? Because I love the song and the image of the song, in it's loving lyrics, mixed with the dark images of murder was the perfect feeling I wanted for the episode and Monica's connection to the murder. And that is how "Close To You" became what it is today.

Telling It Blunt: How FRVS Works

For ten seasons, two movies and everything else in between we have successfully run "Fox & Rat", and we thought we'd share with you what it takes to run a virtual series. This is based solely on how we work.First, find out what's the most important aspect of your virtual series.

Presentation, Delivery, Atmosphere & Color

We create new graphics for every season to fit the atmosphere of the current season. With season six, we used bright pastels, high contrast images. The color palette we used was refreshing. We chose to use refreshing colors because we felt as if we were recreating our series after celebrating our first 100 episodes. With season six, we knew that we finally had a great grasp on our series and where it is going. We wanted this to be reflected in our color theme. With the graphic design for season seven, we want visitors to feel calm. This is due to the fact that our seventh season will most likely go down in FRVS history as being slightly controversial. The colors also reflect a more serious tone, showing once again that FRVS storytelling is evolving.

Know What You're Going To Do

We didn't do this, but it's a good thing to do. Have a season plotted out and have an idea on where you are going for your next season. Not only will this make forshadowing fun, but it also helps with continuity. Continuity is what makes a series great. To be honest, when we started, we didn't do this. Since season five, we learned the power of continuity. We find it fun to weave little character traits and future storylines into episodes as hints, later to be exposed in greater detail. This helps with the natural flow of our series. You don't necessarily have to know how your series is going to end, but it's good to have a few floating ideas. We've got them. Don't engrave your final episode in stone. Your other stories will help build to that final moment.Keep track of your mytharc (if you have one). Keep track of character arcs. It's hard to look back through so many episodes and find all the little aspects you've done for your characters and stories. Keep a notebook. We've started a notebook called "FRVS Indepth Coverage" so we can refer to anything without having to dig through our computer files.Don't just throw a new character in for the heck of it. Give them some lead up before they join your main cast. We've done this several times because of the changes in "The X-Files". John Doggett's first FRVS season was three, and he was only in 8 of 25 episodes. Brad Follmer was only in 8 of 22 episodes in season five. Both of these characters are now main characters. We easily bumped up Brad Follmer with our first part of our 100th episode, "European Voyage: Family Importance". By season six, he had become a main character.Know your characters. How would they react in a certain situation. If you can't do this yet, do it. You have to. You have to "become" your characters when you write. Your characters are your series. They back up your stories. They make your stories. Sometimes you'll find they run your series, and you have no say. That's the best thing that can happen because that's when you know them inside and out.

Don't Be Afraid To Break Rules

Don't write for an audience, write to find an audience.Write comedy. Write drama. Write it all! Just because you're percieved as a comedy, doesn't mean you can't break out and try something a little more serious.Don't be afraid to be controversial. We killed our whole cast! You all hated us, but it helped us grow as story tellers and brought us to where we are today.Write what you like, or you're fucked. If you don't like what you're writing, you won't like your series and won't care about quality. If you write what other people tell you to write, you're driven by others and not your creative vision.Be able to laugh at yourself. Don't take it so seriously or you'll get swamped. Have fun with it. It's your series. You're the executive that calls all the shots. What's more fun than that? If people send feedback that shows that they care about what is happening, that means you have grabbed their attention, that they care about your work. Negative feedback is just as good as positive feedback. You've got them under your spell.

"Get The Shit Out of The Way"

"Oh my god, the stuff we come up with..." - Dana DoggettBrainstorm story ideas. Even the dumb ones that you'll never want to use. Chuckle over the dumb ideas for a bit and move on. You have to get the crap out of your head before you can get to quality. Example: season one through four. This is what our writer's meetings are all about. Sit on the couch and laugh your ass off and move on. If you don't do this you won't get to the quality. How can the good ideas come through if there's too much crap to cut through?

Prepare A Season Well

Get your episodes done well in advanced. The last thing you want to have happen is a delay. We've experienced delays and have learned from it. Now, we have most of our season typed and ready to go by premiere date. At most, over half of our season will be done and the rest works in progress at an advanced stage.Give a week or two break as a mini hiatus near the end incase any unexpected problems arise. This will help you breathe and relax. Don't get too relaxed. If you know you are a master procrastinator (like Dana Doggett), work in a way that you know you will get things done in a timely fashion.During our fifth season, we had a friend in a coma for one month. This happened right as we premiered. She's is one of our closest friends, practically another sister. Doctors were telling us that she wouldn't come out and that they should just put her to rest. Today, she is alive and well. We were able to upload stories on time because they were done. During this time, we didn't do any writing. How could we with what was going on? This is called being prepared for the unexpected. Our Christmas episode, 5x14 "A Christmas To Remember" is dedicated to our friend and her new family.

Make The Most Out of Your Hiatus

Take time off from writing. You won't want to go any longer than a month, if you want to be far ahead in your season by premiere date. Our typical hiatus lasts six months. Yes, half a year. This amount of time allows you to refresh yourself as a writer (especially if your writing staff is you and one other person). After that month, begin writing again. Have a rough outline of story ideas for your upcoming season (fill every slot). Once your ideas are written and more developed, you can begin to reorganize your stories to better make sense for your continuity. Set air dates for your stories (for the whole season). This will help with mapping out deadlines for your writers to have final drafts to your webmaster for uploading on air date. Do not allow a writer to work on a story until the week or two weeks before it will air. Work extremely close with your writers. If you have a large writing staff, make sure everyone knows the season outline (send them a text file of episode summaries and keep this updated often). If they know what is going on, this should help eliminate any continuity problems that could occur.Keep your readers coming. Have re-runs! Add extras. Keep them coming so they don't forget about you. Don't be afraid to talk to your readers, get to know them. It's more fun that way! Adding interactivity to any website makes people want to come back for more.

Promote Your Series

How else will anyone find it? Post to forums, post to mailing lists, let your friends know, contact webmasters near your premiere and ask if they can give you a mention in one of their updates, become affiliated with other related websites and virtual series, put graphics promoting your site in forum signatures, e-mail signatures, etc., submit your site to search engines, get your meta tags right, if you have other websites promote your series there. Whatever you do your goal is to catch the attention of possible readers.

Assign Responsibilities

If you suck at graphics, find someone who can help you out. Any artist wouldn't mind the promotion for their creativity.

FRVS Responsibilities:

Dana Doggett: head writer, main graphics, print ad graphics, season outline, character profiles, content, website layout and design, message board moderator, series project manager (aka: makes sure everyone meets the deadlines), website/series promotion, foreign language researcherLittle Albatross: head writer, website organization, website layout and design, review organizer, print ad graphics, content, webmaster (frontend details: email management, files, cgi, etc.), criminal investigations research/technical advisorAnd remember, don't write for an audience, write to find your audience.

Past Website Layouts

It is incredibly unfortunate that we do not have a screen shot of the very first FRVS website that was hosted on Angelfire. It was a lime green background site with red font! Horrible! And for a time, we didn't know that it was BLINKING because we had forgotten to close a blink tag! See, our Internet Explorer browser hadn't updated to the current version that supported the <blink> tag!Pro tip: NEVER use blink on a website (is that even still supported today??)

Did You Know...

General FRVS

The phrase "fox and rat" has hit the radio air waves when the creators of the series dedicated the New Kids On The Block song "Step By Step" to their friend and season 4 reviewer, Jenny. The DJ said: "From Fox And Rat to Jenny... oooh. This is bad." And then did not play our dedicated song. It was... "bad".

Season 1

1x02 "Lucky Charms vs. Cheerios" was the first written episode of "Fox & Rat".1x06 "The Fish" was the first episode Dana Doggett wrote on her own, and it wasn't in script form.1x12 "The Karoke Bar" was written after an all day marathon of "Harsh Realm", "Super Girl" and "Son In-Law". The Rice Crispy 'stunt' that Krycek did was inspired by an actual commercial advertising Rice Crispy Treats. The writers thought the season one finale, 1x13 "The Cruise", was long.

Season 2

Dana Doggett and Little Albatross had Ground Rules to their apartment.2x08 "Bluhp! Bluhp!" was inspired by a fanfic challenge on The X-Files Official Forum back in 2000 about writing a story from the POV of a minor character. Dana Doggett decided to write a FRVS story from the POV of Mulder's pet fish and what they witnessed in his apartment while he and Krycek are out.In 2x11 "The Camping Trip" Ranger Jeremy is named after one of Dana Doggett's best friends from high school. He loves the outdoors and during summers he helps his family run a camp in Northeastern Wisconsin. It was only appropriate to have him show up in thie episode to aid Mulder, Krycek and Marita when Mulder fell through ice.2x18 "Flight 194" was originally titled "Nosce Te Ipsum".Scully's dream in "Flight 194" features someone named John, this was the first reference to John Montgomery, along with Jill McLeod Montgomery, even though the writer's didn't know it at the time.

Season 3

3x04 "The Pointless Game" was submitted by a reader who was inspired to write a story in the style of FRVS.3x05 "The Website" was written to bring our readers attention to Fox & Alex Build A Website - where FRVS originated from.3x09 "The Almost Perfect Night" was the episode that marked Dana Doggett's transition from Skinner/Scully romance to Doggett/Scully romance. DSR became Dana Doggett's pairing of choice.3x14 "Super Buddies" was the first episode inspired by reader feedback/suggestion. Ratgirl suggested making an adventure group so Mulder and Krycek could take their friends on fun trips.3x18 "Fight For Silence" was inspired by a thread on Haven Spoiler Board in which Theef and MF Luder beat a virtual vaccuum cleaner.3x23 "Mowing The Snow" was Dana Doggett and Little Albatross's first attempt at writing out of script form. This episode was written this way to break a bad case of Writer's Block.Dana Doggett and Little Albatross wrote 3x26 "Road Trip" while listening to Celine Dion the entire time. It's no wonder the whole cast was killed at the end.

Season 4

4x02 "Fences, Chains and Roses" was written to assure readers that the group was not dead in the run of the series.4x14 "The Project" is the first episode to feature Scully's ex-husband, John Montgomery.4x15 "Olympic Dreams Can Come True" was written to poke fun at the writers' love for the Olympic Games. Like Monica in the episode, Dana Doggett and Little Albatross record as much of each Olympic Games as possible.

Season 5

5x02 "Road Trip 3: The Long Walk Home" features the first ever FRVS Public Service Announcement about practicing safe sex. This was inspired by the immature decisions of a friend.5x23 "The 23rd Episode in the 11th Slot" was the second episode written due to reader feedback. The name came about because we had no idea what else to call it. (it was the last episode written for the season and was written to take place mid-season).5x13 "Saturday" was the last episode to feature the Magazine Girls. (as of season six)5x14 "A Christmas To Remember" is dedicated to Sara, Rob, and Avery. The beginning of 5x17 "When All Is Said And Done" was written before 5x16 "The Vegas Stip" was finished.5x19 "A 'Traditional' Valentine's Day" is the first time John kisses Monica when he's sober.5x22 "British Airways Flight 329" features Brad's middle name as "Wesley", this was done because of Cary Elwes' character name in the 1987 film "The Princess Bride".

European Voyage

The writers didn't realize that 6x00 "European Voyage" was the 100th episode of the series until a few months before it aired. This made for great promotion.

Season 6

Krycek's movie in 6x01 "Robot 2000" is an actual film idea developed by Little Albatross, who hopes to one day film it.6x02 "Fox & Alex's Evening of Fun" was inspired by the actual event of Dana Doggett and Little Albatross being ripped off by a pizza delivery guy. Needless to say, they didn't drive around town trying to find the guy.6x03 "A Jammed Door" was inspired by the loud neighbours that lived above Dana Doggett and Little Albatross.6x07 "Destiny's Choice" was going to be a season four episode, but didn't get developed in time.6x16 "The Burden of Intuition" was written to Celine Dion and features a character from "Without A Trace". This is also the first serious case file where an agent got suspended.6x15 "El Rehén" took over a year to write and the character Carlos Reyes was inspired by Quentin Tarantino's character, Richard Gecko, from "From Dusk Till Dawn".6x21 "Sleepless In D.C." is the first time we meet Marita's twin sister, Maria.6x23 "advocatus diaboli" was in the planning/semi-written one year before it aired.

Season 7

The story arc for season seven was in the works long before season five was halfway through.7x02 "RT-7915-3" is titled after an old address of Dana Doggett and Little Albatross's when they lived in Saudi Arabia. "RT" stands for Ras Tanura. "7915-3" is the house number they lived in.7x04 "GDI: Garbage Dump Investigators" proves that Mulder and Krycek can goof off and be serious on a case at the same time.7x20 "Strip Blood" is Gothic Spooks' first episode in "Fox & Rat".7x23 "The Truth About Rat's & Lies", the title for the episode came long before the episode idea. The season finale wasn't supposed to be a two-parter, it just happened that way with a totally different idea than what was originally planned.

Season 8

8x01 "The Last Heart" is one of the rare episodes that deals with a casefile from "The X-Files" television series.8x02 "Unrest" is the first reference of Scott Williams stalking Scully. He calls her and doesn't say anything, just breaths into the telephone. This is also the episode where Monica and Brad's troubles begin with their differences about the medication Monica has to take. The idea for 8x06 "Close To You" was developed in 1998 and was never intended to be part of the "Fox & Rat" series. The character Dr. Galbrecht is named after Little Albatross's criminal justice professors. He has helped with technical information about investigating and police work in past episodes of the series.Knowle's confession of his feelings for Monica in 8x07 "Krycek-Cam" wrote itself sooner than it should have. The writer's were going to deal with the Knowle/Monica UST later in the series.Brad and Monica were originally supposed to get married in 8x11 "What We Used To Know" and 8x12 "Moving Forward". Instead, the story once again wrote itself and the result of them not getting married made for interesting character developments.8x16 "Superstar Super Buddies" is Emma's first time writing fanfic, and her first episode of FRVS. Emma named the character Greg after her father, the character Vicki was named after a friend from work (who in the mind of the writer, went on to win Idol), and Annie is named after Emma's mother. Bringing Agent Pendrell into the episode was Em's way of keeping him alive, after all, she is the Keeper of Pendrell on The X-Files Official Site. The "Stranded" Trilogy (8x17, 8x18, 8x19) was originally intended to be a two-parter where a boat sunk, leaving our heroes stranded on the deserted island. It was a spoof of "Gilligan's Island". The trilogy is also known as "FRost" in the FRVS fandom, meaning "Fox & Rat-Lost". This was coined by Emma Keturah, the reviewer for the trilogy. In 8x19 "Stranded III", the Cigarette-Smoking Man is revealed to be alive. The irony of this is that Little Albatross (the writer) was claiming without a doubt that the Smoking Man was in fact dead after season seven's "Super Buddies Without A Cause" (7x17).8x20 "The Second Friday" is titled to reference Samuel DeWitt's words from 8x10 "Poodle In A Puddle": "You’re past will meet up with you on the second Friday in the second month of the new year. You should be prepared for it."8x22 "Keep Your Enemies Closer" is the first time we suspect Knowle does more in the government than he says. This is also the first time we meet his father, Gary, and see a softer side to the tough guy. This episode is also the first episode where former Marines start to get called to active duty in preparation for Alien Colonization.Skinner is the second Marine to get called to active duty in 8x23 "A Dozen Roses", and this is finally when he and Scully settle their differences.8x25 "Semper Fi" is the first season finale Dana Doggett has written alone.

Season 9

Season 9 took over one year to write, having many delays and hiatus breaks. This was one of the most difficult seasons in FRVS history.

Save The Future

In "Save The Future: Contact" (part 1), Knowle Rohrer and Ray Douglas were originally in the script, but were replaced by Mulder and Krycek the night before/early morning of the air date. The entire first part of the movie had to be rewritten and was completed hours before it aired the afternoon of July 17, 2009. Surprisingly, Knowle and Ray's characters were easily transformed into Mulder and Krycek with minimal stress and re-writing (well, dumb elements were definately added for Mulder and Krycek).

Season 10

All of the season 10 graphic promotional ads have the original anticipated air date as February 9, 2009. The final season didn't air until September 5, 2009 - ten years to the date that "Fox & Rat" began.Every episode of season 10 has a "Star Wars" mention. The real Fox Mulder from "The X-Files" series makes his first and only appearance in the episode 10x05 "Crossover", a crossover episode with the FOX television series "Fringe".10x08 "Fox & Alex's Halloween Scare" was inspired from watching too many episodes of "Scooby Doo".10x11 "The Final Super Spectacular Adventure of Fox and Alex" is the longest episode title of the entire series.

Psych!!!!!!!!!!!! =D
